Eternity is Calling You

If we truly want to have a hope and be encouraged we must look beyond this world and place our hopes in something greater than the things this world has to offer. The things of this world are only temporary. The life we live here is but a vapor, it's here then it's gone! (We) as a human race have a Creator and He has placed within each one of us a desire to hunger for something that is solid, something that can be depended upon, something permanent. The sad thing is, that in all of our searching we are going to find that trying to hang onto the things of this world will only bring us temporary gratification and fleeting fulfillment.
When we look around it is obvious to see that there are so many people that are longing for happiness, peace and contentment. They are running from one temporary high to another. They might feel good for the moment, but then the emptiness hits them like a ton of bricks and once again they run to try and find fulfillment for themselves elsewhere, but to no avail. This discontentment that all of us feel at times can be used for our good or for our bad. The Word of God says that this world is not our home we are as strangers/pilgrims that are just passing through, so to have contentment here in this world is abnormal, after all this is not our home and our soul knows this thus it searches to find our promise land, the place where we can call home and finally have that ultimate rest.
There is a knowing and a longing in each one of us that there must be something more, something that goes beyond this world. This is Eternity calling us. Those who try to convince themselves that this world is all there is, will only become more frustrated and discontented because they are trying to live a life that suggests finite living and they close their ears to the truth that eternity is calling and that there is indeed an eternal life that awaits each one of us.
Living in denial of the Truth (that there is more and this world is not our final destination) will only cause ongoing turmoil in one's life. Whether some want to acknowledge it or not they have a Creator and He designed them to know fulfillment. And that fulfillment is in Him and Him alone. All our hopes, joy, peace and contentment lies in our Creator. Jesus is the only Way, the Truth and the Life. We will not have a full filling life outside of Him. We have Everlasting Life in Him and only Him. We will never know true joy or peace outside Him both here and now and for all eternity. Jesus said, "I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly." Giving us a hope and a future with Him.
If you are reading this, then you are still in this earth and have yet to see your Salvation/Jesus. Even though by faith we have made Jesus our Lord and Saviour, we still long to be with Him, and to be able to hold onto Him. He is our all sufficiency, our total fulfillment (Jesus the Hope of Glory). In the meantime we can find ourselves trying to hold onto things that this world has to offer because our souls are still longing for completeness. Eternity pulls at our hearts. Our souls long for the eternal things, but our flesh keeps us hindered.
I believe I understand the words of Paul now when he proclaimed: "O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin" (Rom. 7:24-25).We all groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to know the redemption of our body. For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it (Rom. 8:23b-25).

Eternity is calling you You are destined for an eternal life. Do you know where you will spend eternity? Embrace eternal life in Christ Jesus today and rest in the hope that you will someday have a place where you can call home.

My dad saw only January of 2008, not knowing he would see his Savior this year. This is very timely for me as I reflect on 2008 and make it my goal to proclaim Christ and long to see him.

Thanks, Tamela,
It is often difficult to remember that we are eternal beings when we are concerned about paying the bills and cooking dinner. But we are more, much more than mortals.
Someday, this mortality must put on immortality. That is when we will no longer look through a glass darkly, but be able to see the Lord in His glory.

Great message! Sometimes I feel really homesick for being with God face to face and for heaven, but thankfully it passes and God enables me to be content here for now. I think of that verse by Paul:

"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain...I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain..." Phil 1:21-25

Hope you have a blessed New Year! Jenny

Hello Robin,

There is a lot of info. out there about numbers and the Bible and the meanings of each number. For example on the seventh day God rested it is the number of completion. You can search the internet or even find books about Biblical numerology.

God bless you :)

Hello Jenny,

May God's will be done in our lives if it's His will for us to remain here than so be it. But i can't help but be somewhat disappointed about that!

I will do my best to make the best of it :)

Hey T,
Sorry to be so long in getting to your blog. I have been working extra days and filling in for 'on call'.

Everything you said is true. I thought of the passage that says, "To those who do not know God, it(The Gospel)is foolishness".

Even these persons who view the Gospel as foolishness desire something permanant. It is not difficult for them to see what direction they are heading as they witness the death of family and friends as each day passes. I think there is a stubbornness that refuses to acknowledge the urgency in coming to the Lord. So, they wait. But then what? What if their waiting was too long and they decide to accept Him on the day they pass from this life?

Hey Jim.

I know what you mean things are beginning to slow down for me a little.

I have often asked myself that same question.. I do agree that there are many that are just stubborn and full of pride when it comes to the Gospel.. I hope and pray that hearts and minds will begin to open and pride and stubborness will fall to the wayside before it is to late for some..

God bless you Jim :)

So beautifully and wonderfully said Tamela! Everyone should read this!

You should send your essay to Oprah. I was listening to a radio segment about how she has gained back 40 lbs. and is miserable about it.

Despite all of her money, accomplishments, and fame (plus the wonderful giving she does), she is missing something in her life. Your post nails it! She, and many, many other people are longing for a true relationship with Jesus Christ.

Oprah, once a Christian got turned off (at Rev. Wright's church in Chicago - who could blame her??) and then got involved with following some New Age guru a few years back. She has lost her way and is now trying to get others to follow HER and this guru's religion. Truly sad...

Despite all that has gone right in her life, it is obvious that there is a huge hole in her heart. I don't think that anyone can become whole until they confess Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Again, GREAT post and thank you for sharing your wonderful insights regarding our need for Jesus!

In Him,
